Especially since the west coast is heading for an Indian summer.
In addition to a global pandemic. many regions are also facing record-breaking high temperatures. Unfortunately because of safety measures being taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 some renters can't even use their pools to cool off.
In California where temperatures have reached the mid-120's in recent weeks, taking a dip is not an option. Property managers have moved to close all communal amenities like rooftop decks, gyms, and swimming pools. At first, there was widespread support for health saving measures. but the honeymoon period appears to be ending soon as people are taking to social media to share their disappointment.
The CDC's latest guidance on public pools, hot tubs, and water playground was issued back in July and states:
"There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of recreational waters. Follow safe swimming practices along with social distancing and everyday preventative actions to protect yourself"
Some local jurisdictions like Riverside County (just outside of Los Angeles) have issued and then lifted their bans on shared-use pools. Instead, they've replaced it with guidance encouraging social distancing and limiting pool usage to shared households and the incorporation of reserved swimming times.
Still, many apartment operators are choosing instead to do neither while collecting the same amount of rent.
