Voter Registration Deadlines Fall Today in 13 States. Here’s What Closes October 5.

Monday, October 5, is a voter-registration deadline in 13 states, but what closes today depends on where you live and how you apply. Ten states have their standard registration deadline today. Louisiana, Montana and South Carolina have method-specific deadlines that need a closer look.
The 13 states are Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
Check the method before you act: a mail postmark is different from an application arriving at an election office, and an online deadline may be later than an office’s closing time. Kentucky’s online cutoff is 4 p.m. local time today.
Standard registration deadlines today
Arizona
Register online or submit a paper application by October 5. The state’s 2026 calendar lists an 11:59 p.m. online cutoff; confirm the portal’s displayed timing rather than assuming an East Coast deadline. In-person applications are due by close of business. Mailed forms must be postmarked by October 5 and reach the county recorder by 7 p.m. on Election Day; a separate rule also accepts timely dated forms received within five calendar days after the deadline. Before you submit
Check your existing registration and follow the official application instructions, including required signatures and identification. Save any submission confirmation. For mail, an envelope dropped in a collection box today may receive a later postmark. Texas election officials recommend requesting a free manual postmark at a USPS retail counter when the date matters. Check your registration · Official postmark guidance
For the federal election, voters generally must be U.S. citizens, meet state residency requirements and be 18 by Election Day. Additional eligibility rules vary by state. Military and overseas voters may have different deadlines.
Already-registered voters who moved or changed their names may have update or provisional-ballot options; missing an update deadline does not automatically settle whether you can vote. Federal eligibility overview · Official state registration directory and military/overseas resources
If your state is not listed, check its official election office through Vote.gov. Deadlines differ across the country, and some states allow registration through Election Day.
