OutTV’s “Laid Bare” Trailer Reaction: Clothing Optional, Murder Mandatory in Palm Springs

Palm Springs has long been a sanctuary for queer travelers seeking sun, freedom, and community. Now, the desert oasis is becoming the backdrop for a bold new streaming series that mixes nudity, mystery, and campy suspense.

OUTtv’s new original show “Laid Bare” is a murder-mystery thriller set inside a clothing-optional gay resort in Palm Springs’ historic Warm Sands neighborhood—an area famous for its LGBTQ+ resorts and nightlife. The series carries a tagline that says it all: “Clothing optional. Murder mandatory.”

A Whodunit With a Queer Twist

Created by filmmaker Tim O’Leary, Laid Bare follows ten men invited to an exclusive weekend at a gay nudist resort. But their relaxing desert getaway quickly turns deadly as guests begin turning up dead and the survivors realize someone among them is the killer.

The show blends murder-mystery storytelling with campy humor and queer culture, drawing inspiration from classic whodunits like Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians while leaning into the unapologetic sexuality of queer nightlife and resort culture.

According to O’Leary, the idea came after visiting a real Palm Springs nude resort and noticing how open and trusting the environment felt.

“People don’t have barriers up… it feels like a queer Garden of Eden,” O’Leary said in an interview about the project. “That contrast made me wonder what would happen if someone were murdered there.”

The result: a genre mash-up that mixes dark comedy, suspense, and plenty of eye candy.

A Cast Full of Suspects

The eight-episode series features an ensemble cast that includes:

  • Robert Rice

  • Jason Caceres

  • Ephraim López

  • Jaymes Hayden Rodriguez

  • Ethan Daniel Corbett

  • Michael Deni

  • Alex Ringler

  • Zack Rocklin-Waltch

  • Nicolas Zuluaga

  • Marval Rex

Filmed at the Desert Paradise Resort Hotel in Palm Springs, the show places its characters in a setting where literal vulnerability—being naked—mirrors the emotional exposure of the characters as secrets unravel.

A New Direction for Queer Genre TV

Queer television has expanded rapidly in recent years, but much of the content still falls into familiar categories like romance, comedy, or coming-of-age drama.

Laid Bare attempts something different: a queer slasher-style mystery with humor and high stakes, where the characters’ sexuality is simply part of the world—not the central conflict.

The series also plays with the tension between safe queer spaces and hidden danger, a theme that resonates with audiences who view places like Palm Springs as cultural sanctuaries.

Palm Springs: A Natural Setting

Palm Springs’ Warm Sands district has been a hub for gay resorts since the 1980s, known for its clothing-optional hotels, pool parties, and LGBTQ-friendly nightlife. Over the decades, the area has become one of the most visible symbols of queer leisure culture in the United States.

Setting a mystery inside that environment adds a playful twist: the sunny vacation vibe colliding with a classic “everyone is a suspect” scenario.

Streaming Now

Laid Bare premiered on OUTtv in January 2026, with episodes running around 10 minutes each—making it a quick binge for viewers who enjoy fast-paced storytelling and campy twists.

If the show catches on, creators say they hope to expand the story further and continue building a universe of queer genre storytelling.

And if the tagline is any indication, viewers should expect plenty of drama along the way.

Because in Palm Springs, apparently, the sun isn’t the only thing that’s hot—so is the body count.
