Fox Broadcasts First Black Gay Wedding

Lee Daniel's "Empire" just made television history by nationally broadcasting a black gay wedding. Regardless of how you feel about the Jussie Smollett "hate crime" scandal; the team at Empire deserves props for reaching this milestone in equal representation for LGBT people of color.

On the show Smollett's character Jamal marries journalist Kai (played by Toby Onwumere) after a tumultuous engagement that included Kai's hard lesson on what it means to become one of the Lyons. It might be too soon to determine if this moment will go down in history like other big on-air first. Decades after Captain Kirk and Uha first locked lips on Star Trek, people are still talking about the impact of that moment.

What do you think? Was it everything that you hoped for?
